TNT changes nickname to Tropang Giga
TNT will carry the Tropang Giga moniker in time for the PBA Philippines Cup restart inside the bubble in Clark, Pampanga on October 11.
The team officially launched its new identity through its social media accounts on Saturday after more than three seasons of being known as TNT KaTropa.
“We’re not just going big! We always become GIGA! “said the team.
It will be the fifth change for the franchise since Manny V. Pangilinan acquired the franchise, then known as Mobiline Phone Pals in 2001.
Mobiline became Talk ‘N Text’s phone friends from the 2001 Governor’s Cup to the 2008 Fiesta Conference.
They changed the nickname to Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters from 2008-09 through the 2014-15 season, achieving six championships, including three consecutive Philippine Cup wins during that period.
Talk ‘N Text was renamed TNT, resulting in numerous changes to TNT Tropang Texters (2015-16 Philippines Cup), Tropang TNT (2016 Commissioner’s Cup), and TNT KaTropa (2016-2019).
The Tropang Giga hopes to produce immediate success within the bubble as it is among the leading contenders for the Philippine Cup crown.
Coach Bong Ravena and active consultant Mark Dickel will count on center Poy Erram, who was acquired from NLEX last February, to reinforce the team led by Jayson Castro, Roger Pogoy and Ray Parks Jr.
