MANILA – Talk ‘N Text advanced to the semifinals of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup after rejecting Alaska, 104-83, in their quarterfinal game at the Foundation Sports and Cultural Center from the University of Angeles on Saturday night.

Tropang Giga walked away from the Aces after outscoring them, 33-15, in the third quarter to break a 51 tie and open up an 84-66 lead going into the fourth period.

RR Pogoy finished with 34 points on 9 of 15 shooting, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for TNT, which will face the winner of the other quarterfinal pair between Phoenix and Magnolia in the next round.

The game between the second-seeded Fuel Masters and the seventh-seeded Hotshots is ongoing as of publication with the former looking to finish off the second to clinch a spot in Final 4.

Jeron Teng had 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals for Alaska, who lost to Abel Galliguez the rest of the way after falling hard while trying to block Parks’ dunk attempt.

Phoenix expels Magnolia

Phoenix set a semi-final date with TNT after beating Magnolia, 89-88, in another quarter-final game Saturday night.

Matt Wright won it for the Fuel Masters after punching a 3-pointer with 9.8 seconds to go and the shot clock runs out.

Paul Lee had a chance to force the sudden death of seventh seeded Hotshots, who entered the quarterfinals two strokes behind, but Alex Mallari’s tough defense forced him to take a step back that only bounced off the hoop before time expired.

Wright finished with 32 points on 9 of 18 shooting, five rebounds, nine assists and one steal for Phoenix, who will face TNT in the semifinals starting Wednesday night.

Jason Perkins added 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting, six rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Lee scored 17 points, five rebounds and six assists for Magnolia, who will miss the semifinals after making back-to-back appearances in the Philippine Cup Finals.

Ian Sangalang added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds with an assist. (PNA)
