A late collapse marred the start of the new year for San-En as they fell 80-81 to Sun Rockers Shibuya in the 2020-21 B. League season on Saturday at the Aoyama Gakuin Memorial Hall in Tokyo.

San-En led 80-69 in the final 2:30, but was outscored 12-0 down the stretch by Shibuya, who snatched the win in the final 0.2 seconds thanks to a setback from former NBA player James Michael McAdoo .

The 27-year-old big man, a two-time champion with the Golden State Warriors in 2015 and 2017, burned San-En for a sum of 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.

Another NBA alumnus, former Los Angeles Laker Ryan Kelly, added 13 points, four rebounds and one steal in Shibuya’s win, which climbed to 18-8 in the Eastern District.

Thirdy Ravena scored six points, four rebounds, a steal and a block in 18 minutes for San-En, but exited during the third period after sustaining a hand injury.

Stevan Jelovac stepped up for the NeoPhoenix with 19 points, but fired just 6 of 18 shots from the field, though he added 16 rebounds to his line. Fellow import Kyle Hunt had 17, five boards and four blocks, while Terazono Shuto scored 13 markers.

San-En, still in ninth place in the Western District, fell to 5-21 after his fourth consecutive loss.

The NeoPhoenix can try to turn it around on Sunday when the two-game road trip against the same Shibuya team concludes at 1:05 pm (Manila time).
