TYPHOON Quinta (Molave) made landfall for the second time in less than an hour over Malinao, Albay.
The typhoon, which escalated from a storm to a severe storm and then to a typhoon in less than a day, made landfall for the second time at 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
It made landfall for the first time at 6:10 pm on San Miguel Island, city of Tabaco, Albay.
In an advisory issued at 7 p.m. Sunday, the state meteorological bureau of the Philippine Astronomical and Geophysical Services Administration (Pagasa) said there is a red rain warning over the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Northern Samar.
These areas were under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) no. 3 starting at 5 pm on Sunday.
Pagasa said severe flooding is expected in flood-prone areas and near river channels. Landslides were possible in areas prone to landslides.
Pagasa said a two to three meter high storm surge was possible in the coastal areas of Camarines Norte, the northern and eastern parts of Camarines Sur and the northern and central parts of Quezon province.
An orange rain advisory was issued over Palawan (Cuyo, Magsaysay and Agutaya).
A yellow rain warning was issued for Cebu, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Occidental Mindoro, the rest of the northern part of Palawan, the northern part of Samar, the northern part of Leyte and Biliran. Floods and landslides were also expected.
As of 7pm on Sunday, light to moderate to heavy rains were being experienced in Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.
A storm surge of one to two meters high was expected in the northern coastal areas of Samar, the rest of the Bicol region, the Polillo Islands, the southern part of the Quezon, Batangas, Marinduque, Romblon and Mindoro provinces.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, the typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (km / h) near the center and gusts of up to 160 km / h. It was moving west at 25 km / h.
