MANILA, Philippines – A book was released on December 2 celebrating the Far Eastern University Tamaraws race to the 2015 UAAP men’s basketball championship.

Titled Dugout Diaries: The Championship Run, the book offers a look at the inner workings of a team seeking to regain lost glory.

Written by student-athlete training team consultant Ed Garcia, Dugout Diaries: The Championship Run portrays the behind-the-scenes workings of the program installed by his former coach Nash Racela (which continues today with his younger brother, Olsen). . told through reflections and anecdotes.

“Essentially, this story about FEU’s 20th UAAP Championship illustrates character development through sport,” Garcia summarized.

“Defeat is the best teacher because in 2014, the FEU lost to the National University in the final. One of the key things the coaching staff did in addition to honing their basketball skills was to mold them as people with feelings, dreams and emotions. “

In 2015 UAAP season 78, FEU Tamaraws posted an 11-3 record in eliminations, second behind their final rival, the University of Santo Tomas.

The Tamaraws knocked out the Ateneo in the semifinals before beating it against the UST in three games. Mac Belo was named the Most Valuable Player of the final.

“That was a 10-year wait for the championship,” Garcia added.

“One of the things that we teach the players we are all from different places and regions, with different backgrounds and beliefs. But somehow we are interconnected as a family. All life is a gift and if we understand it and we are a family, we do everything for the common good ”.

“It is a process,” Garcia summarized. “If at the Athenaeum they teach us to be men for others; Here at FEU, my task was to create student-athletes for others ”.

García is a student at the Ateneo de Manila University who did graduate studies in Colombia, Peru, and Mexico. He was also a member of the Philippine Constitutional Commission in 1986 which framed the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

As a teacher, García has taught in Mexico, Spain, Italy, Sweden, and Norway. Locally, he taught political science at the University of the Philippines and Latin American Studies at the Ateneo.
