“The boy was not arrested together with Ms. Echanis as some groups claim. In fact, an ambulance with medical personnel was dispatched to help the mother and her child. It was Ms. Echanis who insisted on na isama nya ang anak niya. (She was the one who insisted on being close to her daughter.) DSWD was also notified and requested their assistance, ”Lt. Col. Andree Abella, head of the Cagayan police public information office, said in a statement.

Abella was reacting to Anakpawis ‘claim that law enforcement officers arrested Echanis’ 1-year-old baby after a search warrant was served at Barangay Carupian, in Baggao, Cagayan.

Amanda is the daughter of Randall Echanis, who was the president of Anakpawis and a peace consultant for the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, when he was shot and killed in an apartment in Quezon City on August 10.
