MANILA: Audi Philippines recently launched the Audi Sport brand in the country, and it was led by the new RS 3 Sedan.
Audi Sport is the high-performance division of Audi AG, and is responsible for the development of the top-tier RS line.
The RS 3 Sedan is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder petrol engine, recognized as International Engine of the Year for 10 years in a row by international automotive journalists. Evaluation for this award is based on fuel economy, smoothness, power delivery, emitted sound, and overall engine performance. From 2010 to 2018, the five-cylinder TFSI engine had gained recognition for the 2-0-liter to 2.5-liter category. In 2019, it was also hailed as the best among 150ps to 250ps class engines.
Regarded as the most powerful series-produced five-cylinder engine, the 2.5 TFSI is exclusively for high-performance vehicles. The engine offers a power of 400 hp and a torque of 480 Nm, which is available between 1,700 and 5,850 rpm. This fuel-efficient engine is Euro6 compliant, with city / highway fuel consumption of 11.76 km per liter.
The engine’s in-line five-cylinder design produces a distinctive sound. When power is increased, the exhaust system flaps open to resonate the sound, which can also be adjusted via Audi Drive Select. In the RS 3 Sedan, the engine creates a clearer sound due to the RS sports exhaust system.
The high-power engine of the new RS 3 Sedan is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission. For automatic mode, the driver can choose between two programs: “D” for normal engine speed and “S” for higher revs.
The RS 3 Sedan uses Audi’s standard Quattro all-wheel drive system with an electronic multi-disc clutch that distributes engine torque to the axles.
When it comes to the exterior, the RS 3 Sedan is designed with a sporty look that is highlighted by its Singleframe grille with the Quattro logo. Its Audi Sport distinction is emphasized by its fixed rear spoiler lip, a diffuser insert with vertical struts, and huge oval RS tailpipes.
The launch of the RS 3 Sedan in the Philippine market was joined by the RS Q8 SUV and the RS 6 Avant. Other RS models, along with the new R8 supercar, are expected to arrive in the country within this year.
