The Houston Rockets have realized that James Harden would like to leave the franchise and his mind is set, but they are not preparing to rush to make a trade to his preferred destination.
Houston has previously said they are “willing to be uncomfortable” with Harden’s situation.
“The feeling I have about the Rockets is that their ambition, their goal, their hope is no longer about saving the relationship with James Harden and getting it,” Tim MacMahon said on the Brian Windhorst Podcast. “There is an understanding, you know, his decision is made. He wants to get out and there is a determination to say ‘Okay, we got it. This happens in the NBA, but just because James Harden wants to leave doesn’t mean he is leaving. to dictate where and for what [he’s traded].
“James Harden came to dictate the Russell Westbrook trade last summer. Tillman [Fertitta] I also liked it at the time. Do not misunderstand. James Harden was the driving force behind that exchange. That was no secret.
“Harden doesn’t go as far as saying where he’s been traded and basically forces the Rockets to accept a 60-cent package for a perennial MVP candidate. I think what the Rockets are doing right now is they’re preparing for him. -Harden post rebuild “.
MacMahon also reported what the Rockets are looking for for Harden.
“A package for Harden, and listen, this has sped up a lot faster than I expected. All of these things are seamless. We get it. What the Rockets are saying is’ We need a key young franchise player type and Jrue Holiday-type picks. That’s where the conversations need to start. And do you see a young player of the caliber of the franchise’s cornerstone in the Nets? Do you consider Caris LeVert young or a franchise cornerstone? “
“Well it’s not Ben Simmons if that’s your point,” Brian Windhorst replied.
For the Russell Westbrook situation, there is no trade they can make so they hope to hold him for now and it could possibly increase his trade value.
