Typhoon Rolly continues to intensify over the past 24 hours as it moves toward Infanta, Quezon.

While not likely to turn into a super typhoon, Rolly is expected to make landfall and hit the Quezon, Aurora and Bicol region area hard, said Raymond Ordinario, a climate specialist with the Atmospheric Services Administration, Geophysicists. and Astronomical of the Philippines (PAGASA).

“It is unlikely to turn into a super typhoon, but we do not completely rule out the possibility because it continues to intensify,” he said.

In its tropical cyclone warning issued at 5 p.m. Friday, PAGASA said the typhoon is forecast to continually intensify over the Philippine Sea.

At 4 p.m., the eye of the typhoon was located 980 kilometers east of Casiguran. It has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts up to 230 kph and is moving west at 20 kph.

Rolly is forecast to move west-southwest through tomorrow night and turn west-northwest as it moves over the sea off the coast of the Bicol region towards the east coast of the Aurora-Quezon area.

The typhoon is likely to make landfall over the Aurora-Quezon area on Sunday night or early Monday morning, the weather bulletin reported.

“Even if the weather is good, people in the typhoon’s path, especially those from Quezon, Aurora and the Bicol region should not be complacent. Precautionary measures must be taken. The probability of crossing is high, which means that it will actually go through Quezon, Aurora and the Bicol region, ”he said.

According to PAGASA, light to moderate to heavy rains are expected in the Bicol region, eastern and central Visayas, Caraga, northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Batanes, Cagayan and Isabela.

It will likely bring heavy to heavy rains over northern and central Luzon and the Bicol region on Saturday or Sunday.
