MANILA – The landscape of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) elections has now become clearer as the two groups seeking to sweep all electoral seats are being revealed.

Current President Bambol Tolentino of the Philippine Integrated Cycling Federation was the first to announce his partial list during the Philippine Sports Writers Association Forum on Tuesday, naming Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio as his first vice president and the president of the Philippine Fencing Association and the president of the Modern Pentathlon Association of the Philippines, Richard Gomez as its second vice president.

The concurrent congressman from the 7th Cavite District then filled out his ticket on Saturday, naming Philippine Triathlon Association President Tom Carrasco as his candidate for president, Philippine Gymnastics Association President Cynthia Carreon-Norton , as its treasurer, and legend of the Philippine Basketball Association. Chito Loyzaga, representing the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association, as auditor.

The board members on the Tolentino ticket are the Secretary General of the Philippine Muaythai Association, Pearl Managuelod, the President of the Philippine Judo Federation, Dave Carter, the renowned sports physician George Canlas, the director of the Association de Surf of the Philippines, and Congressman Prospero Pichay of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, World Archery Philippines President Clint Aranas, Tolentino’s opponent for the top POC post, also recently revealed his own partial ticket for the election.

Aranas will have the president of the Philippine Handball Federation, Steve Hontiveros, as president, the president of the Philippine Athletics Association of Athletics, Philip Juico, as first vice president, and the general secretary of the Philippine Rugby Union, Ada Milby, as second vice president.

Aranas will reveal the rest of his list at a later date.

Both Tolentino and Hontiveros are seeking new four-year terms as president and president, respectively.

On the other hand, Milby initially expressed his desire to challenge Gomez for the second vice president as an independent candidate, but on why Aranas adopted her for his ticket, he explained, “Pareho kami ng punto (We have the same points): responsibility and transparency. “

Aranas also revealed that she is also adopting Managuelod as one of her board members despite being officially part of Tolentino’s team, making her a favorite to secure a seat on the POC board.

Before the November 27 elections, applicants can now begin submitting their candidacy certificates on October 1. (PNA)
