WITH their former players deciding to take their basketball journeys in a new direction, Manila ChooksTM has turned to new faces to announce their 3 × 3 campaign this season, starting with the 3 × 3 World Tour in Doha, Qatar.
Chico Lanete, Mac Tallo, Zachy Huang and Dennis Santos now make up the renewed Manila ChooksTM squad, taking the place of players like Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol, who have brought their talents to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The coach of the new team is the champion of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, coach Aldin Ayo.
First for Manila ChooksTM in 2021 is the 3 × 3 World Tour that will take place from March 26 to 27.
Mr. Ayo said that since the team is new they expect some early hits, but something they are willing to deal with and build on.
“We are starting, but I think we are starting on the right foot. We are establishing a new culture and a new approach. Hopefully the players respond to that, ”Mr. Ayo said in a statement of what they are trying to accomplish.
Mr. Lanete, 41, is the veteran among the players. He played in the PBA for more than a decade and is a three-time league champion.
He debuted in the 3 × 3 game last year and instantly impressed on the local circuit.
Mr. Tallo also had experience in the PBA, while Huang, 6 feet 4 inches, is a former player for Mr. Ayo with Santo Tomas Growling Tigers University. Santos, for his part, is 6 feet 5 inches tall.
On the World Tour, Manila ChooksTM will have to go through the qualifying draw with host Doha and Austria Graz before they can reach the main draw.
