Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 7) – The islands of Cebu and Visayas were chosen as the ‘Top Island in Asia’ by the renowned international travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler.
The two areas, merged into a single entry, led the other three Philippine islands in the Top 10 for the category in the magazine’s 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards.
“Located in the central Philippines, Cebu attracts millions of travelers annually for its pristine beaches and scuba diving on the island’s north coast. Spanish and Catholic influences permeate Cebu City; the Minore del Santo Niño Basilica is home to a small statue of Christ that was presented by Ferdinand Magellan, “wrote the international travel magazine in its entry.
Palawan, known as the last frontier of the Philippines due to its preserved pristine environment, ranked fourth among the top islands in Asia for 2020.
The popular surf spot Siargao Island ranks fifth in the Conde Nast Traveler rankings.
Although it is located in the Visayas, but was made as a separate entry, Boracay Island made the list in sixth place.
The Department of Tourism praised the recognition given to the four Philippine entries in the prestigious list of the best islands on the continent.
“This last appointment of the CNT gives us a boost of confidence in the Department of Tourism, as we continually carry out our strategies to gradually reopen domestic tourism, to once again receive travelers from other countries when things improve” said the Secretary of Tourism, Bernadette Romulo. Puyat in a statement.
Puyat added that these appointments will help the agency continue to advocate for sustainable and responsible tourism practices to preserve these destinations.
