Former National Team player Emilio “Nonoy” Chuatico (February 22, 1965 to January 2, 2021) passed away in the United States on Saturday after a long battle with cancer.

He was 55 years old.

Chuatico, a native of Bacolod City, had a stellar basketball career during his heyday.

An intoxicating guard, he was the captain of the Athenaeum until the school’s first UAAP championship in season 50.

After his college career, Chuatico would be called up to the National Team, helping the Philippines win gold at the 1991 Southeast Asian Games in Manila.

A year later, Geneva would select him as the eighth overall pick in the PBA Rookie Draft.

Chuatico’s career at PBA only lasted four years, ending it with Purefoods when he was traded for Vince Hizon in 1995.

Chuatico also played for the MBA Manila Metrostars team in 1998 before becoming part of the team’s coaching staff a season later.

After his playing career, Chuatico became a businessman and an avid golfer.

Chuatico is survived by his wife and three daughters.
