A FOOTWEAR store was ordered to close two hours after its grand opening on Wednesday, November 12, 2020, for various violations such as not observing social distancing.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella ordered the closure of JS Footwear in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
A City Council team that inspected the store following reports of a mass gathering of people discovered that the store does not have a City Council business permit to operate and a promotion permit from the Department of Commerce and Industry.
The store promotion includes the sale of three shoes for P980 and other special discounts.
People queuing to enter the store (approximately 100 square meters) located along Sanson Road arrived at Salinas Drive, which is about 300 meters.
“When we found out, we acted immediately. A team from the City Council went to the place and closed it with the help of policemen. We gave a show of cause order to explain the violation of social distancing. Our team also discovered that the store does not have a business permit or a sales promotion permit, ”Labella said.
The mayor reminded the public that the coronavirus infection (Covid-19) remains a threat.
Labella explained that ignoring the minimum health protocols now will have an impact on progress in the fight against Covid-19, as well as the recovery of the city’s economy that was severely affected by the enhanced community quarantine period (ECQ).
The mayor added that the city cannot afford to be placed under ECQ again and Covid-19 cases will increase again due to the lack of proper observation of social distancing.
Meanwhile, the Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) recommended an indefinite closure of JS Footwear.
Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganea, EOC Deputy Director of Implementation, said the owner will also be held accountable if there will be an increase in cases in the coming days and the common source of infection in conducting contract tracing will be the area. .
If that happens, Garganera said legal action will be taken against the owner of the shoe center.
Garganera said the EOC will also coordinate with the barangay to find out if the barangay knows about the event.
“They should be concerned for their own safety … what if the broadcast didn’t do it, wouldn’t it do the positive? So, in addition to the shoes, you bring Covid to your house, ”said Garganera.(JJL / MVG)
