Initial steps have been taken in Congress to resolve the problems of the ABS-CBN network. Here are the stories that make ANC headlines today:

‘Back to the air in June’
A House committee on Wednesday passed a bill granting a provisional franchise to ABS-CBN. The bill allows the network to air on television for free until October. House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who authored the bill along with other House leaders, said the network could likely air again in June.

Divided house
Speaking of Cayetano, the Speaker of the House of Representatives broke his silence and responded to those who complained that the House had made a mistake in the franchise. He criticized his fellow congressmen who criticized his leadership and handling of the ABS-CBN issue, alleging that they should be ashamed for insulting the House.

The law is the law?
Social media exploded in recent days after photos of a birthday “party” of Metro Manila police chief Major General Debold Sinas circulated. The images showed Sinas and about 50 police officers at the meeting not practicing social distancing, wearing no masks, and drinking alcohol. For the past few weeks, Sinas and his men have been chasing Metro Manila residents who violate the quarantine. An internal investigation into the celebration has been launched. Sinas apologized but stated that the photos were edited. The Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Ano, reminded public servants to observe the “delicacy”.

On fake news
His critics say he is responsible for spreading much of the “fake news” directed at the president’s critics online. But finally, after all this time, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has summoned Mocha Uson to explain a “fake news” article that he spread online. The call comes after the NBI arrested a public school teacher who offered money to anyone who can kill the president. The NBI also said it was after netizens who threatened the vice president’s life.

Fit for the future
With the increasing demand for home exercise equipment and rentals, the popularity of online classes, and concerns about health and safety, how will gyms and studios adjust after closing? ANCX talks to several in the fitness industry to see how things will work out.
