Thailand could host the planned bubble for the resumption of the 2021 FIBA Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The manager of the Indonesian men’s basketball team, Farez Tamrella, reported the possibility to BolaSkor.com
“If the information I received [is correct], it is likely that [it is in] Thailand [where we] will play”, He was quoted as saying.
“But it is not official yet.”
Thailand and Indonesia are in Group A of the Asian Cup Qualifiers, along with the Philippines and South Korea.
Gilas Pilipinas was set to face the Thais in the first window last February, but the game was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
As a result, Filipino dribblers only had one allowance in that window. They beat the Indonesians, 100-70, in Jakarta.
Currently, the South Koreans are at the top of the group with a 2-0 win-loss card, followed by Gilas with a 1-0 scoreboard.
Thailand is in third place with a 0-1 record, while Indonesia is in last place as they failed to win both of their games in the opening window.
FIBA announced last week that it will resume all of its continental cups through bubble setups in countries yet to be announced.
The setting is far from the usual home and away format, and will be used on the November 2020 and February 2021 windows.
Gilas will face South Korea and Thailand in the November window, before facing Indonesia and Korea again in February.
There is still no schedule for Gilas’ postponed game against the Thais, as well as for the other two first window games delayed due to the virus.
Gilas is currently having trouble putting together a team for November. Any PBA player in the pool will be in Clark’s own league bubble for the 45th season reboot.
