CHRIS Daleo, coach of the Thailand national team who won the silver medal at the 30th Southeast Asian Games, and St. Clare’s mentor Jinino Manansala are the latest to show interest in the vacant head coach position at the University of Santo Tomas.
Daleo, 55, shared that he applied for a consultant position with the Growling Tigers last Monday.
“I love Filipino basketball,” he said. Spin.ph. “I’m just looking for a place where my experience and my training can help win games and championships.”
The Philippines has always intrigued DePaul’s student, even as he has mainly stayed in Thailand, managing Hi-Tech Bangkok City since 2017 while guiding the country’s women’s basketball team to a silver medal at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Spin.ph Sources, on the other hand, shared that Manansala has his eyes set on the job of head coach of the senior team.
He was the architect of the four-mob race for the St. Clare College of Caloocan Saints at NAASCU.
Manansala was also an assistant coach for the Growling Tigers since last year, but was one of those who submitted his resignation alongside head coach Aldin Ayo and assistant Mcjour Luib after the Growling Tigers’ controversial Bicol bubble.
He was just named head coach of the UST Tiger Cubs last July before the incident left the men’s basketball program in shambles.
The son of 1978 PBA Rookie of the Year Jimmy Manansala is a former Snarling Tiger, having played for coach Aric del Rosario from 1999 to 2003, the latter of whom served as team captain.
They join a host of candidates who have already expressed their intentions to rebuild the team, led by former PBA champion coach Siot Tanquingcen, former Alaska resident importer Sean Chambers and Rain or Shine’s assistant coach Chris Gavina.
