MANILA, Philippines – TerraFirma ended its terrible seven-game losing streak after beating Blackwater, 110-101, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the Angeles University Foundation.
Not only did Dyip improve to a 1-7 scorecard, they were also active in their pursuit of a playoff spot, though their fate now lies in the results of the other teams.
It was a fight in the fourth quarter with TerraFirma doing its best to maintain a lead that never reached 10 points.
TerraFirma held a 98-92 lead midway through the fourth courtesy of the play and one from CJ Pérez as he joined Juami Tiongon to keep the Elite at bay.
Tiongson hit a 3-pointer that pushed the Dyip up 108-101 with 1:15 remaining, marking the game.
“I don’t want to go home 0-11 and we should win to get rid of the nostalgia,” said Dyip head coach Johnedel Cardel. “Keeping them motivated was difficult because 0-7 is not a joke, but we talked a lot as a team and I told them to only play basketball, teamwork basketball.”
“Fortunately, the players were not depressed.”
Perez finished with 27 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks to lead Dyip, while 2019’s top pick, Roosevelt Adams, had a monster adventure on the glass with 20 points and 16 rebounds to accompany two steals.
Juami Tiongson also had a stellar start for TerraFirma with 19 points, while Eric Camson and JP Calvo added 11 points each.
Niño Canaleta had 29 points and seven rebounds to lead Blackwater, which fell to 2-6.
