The Guinness World Record for the fastest slalom vehicle was recently shattered by 16-year-old American karting sensation Chloe Chambers and she did so while driving a 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder. With more than seven years of karting experience, Chambers established a Time of 47.45 seconds on August 21, 2020. It was good enough to break the previous record of 48.11 seconds set by Jia Qiang in a Chevrolet Camaro in 2019.

“I really enjoy driving, I think it’s fun,” Chambers said. “It sounds easy, but it really isn’t; weaving between 50 cones as fast as possible, trying to beat record time and knowing that I couldn’t touch a single one to make the run count, I definitely felt the pressure.”

Unlike other forms of racing, slalom demands a completely new discipline. The key is to find the correct balance and maintain enough momentum as the vehicle moves between the cones. Pushing too hard can induce oversteer, while too much understeer will push the nose past the cones.

Professional surveyors measured the position between each of the 50 cones arranged on a small airfield at Solberg Airport in New York City using GPS. After a couple of warm-up races, Chambers donned his sparkly turquoise sunglasses and boarded his GT Silver Metallic Porsche 718 Spyder for the record attempt. “Everything went well in my last race; the car worked perfectly and I found the grip I needed. Thanks to my family and Porsche for supporting me and believing in me, ”added Chambers.

Without question, the 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder is the perfect car for the job. It has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that produces 414 horsepower. Equipped with a spirited six-speed manual gearbox, it accelerates to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The 718 Spyder also has Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with adaptive dampers and a lower ride height.

“On behalf of the entire Porsche family, we send our sincerest congratulations; we are pleased to have been able to support Chloe with her ambitious record attempt and share her relief at the success,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. .
