Straight to the vaccine czar Gálvez: Assemble your ‘Justice League’

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto recommended to the government vaccine czar that he “rally his Justice League” to ensure an effective COVID-19 vaccination program, saying “a Superman” cannot assume responsibility alone.

“No mission is more difficult and no challenge is greater than providing vaccines for everyone. But that burden is too heavy for one man to bear, ”Recto said in a statement Wednesday.

“This is not a job for a Superman. You have to put together your Justice League. Not only from the military, but from all sectors ”, he added.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the National Task Force (NTF) designation of COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Gálvez Jr., a former military man, as a vaccine czar.

“I wish General Gálvez good luck in his additional assignment as vaccine czar,” Recto said.

Gálvez, who is also Duterte’s peace adviser, has been at the forefront of the government’s response to COVID-19 since he was appointed head of the NTF.

As vaccine czar, Gálvez will lead the distribution process for vaccines once they are available.

According to Recto, Galvez should be involved with multiple sectors, “especially companies with the experience in the supply chain to regularly restock millions of stores with their products without problems.”

“He (Gálvez) is the mere conductor of an orchestra that must work in perfect symphony. Vaccine delivery is a major production involving millions of moving parts, “said the senator.

“There is the challenge of supplying the syringe to deliver 220 million doses in sub-zero temperatures to 110 million people in an archipelago where the cold chain infrastructure is lacking,” he added.

“If you overcome this, then on V-Day (Vaccine Day), you will receive the eternal gratitude of our race as a liberator,” he further said.
