MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) and an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring rains to parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Friday, the state meteorological office PAGASA said.

The looming storm is 240 kilometers east of Davao city at 3 am, climate specialist Ana Clauren told Teleradyo’s “Sakto”.

The climate disruption is unlikely to turn into a tropical cyclone, he added.

The Visayas, the Bicol region and Mimaropa will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the LPA and ITCZ, Clauren said.

The ITCZ will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated showers or thunderstorms over Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the northeast or amihan monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country can generally have pleasant weather with chances of rain due to the amihan.

When asked about the weather forecast for the month, Clauren said that 1 tropical cyclone normally enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) for January.
