CEBU CITY, Philippines – Vendors who sell statues of the Santo Niño and offer cleaning and painting services around the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño here will only be given 10 hours a day to sell during the Misa de Gallo period.

Racquel Arce, head of the Improvement and Beautification team of the Prevention Restoration Order (PROBE), said that due to Mayor Edgardo Labella’s Executive Order that establishes that vendors are not allowed within a 50 meter radius of any church during the Gallo Mass, the Sto. . Child vendors are not allowed to remain at their stalls during the sunrise Masses period.

The initial plan was to move them to the vacant lot next to Compania Maritima, where they should remain until Sinulog 2021, but as the lot is not yet ready for occupancy, the move was postponed after Christmas.

Because of this, vendors will be able to stay in their booths with the alternate day guidelines from 7 am to 5 pm daily, or at least one hour after sunrise Masses until one hour before Simbang Gabi in the evening.

Arce said that this is the only way to commit that sellers can still sell, without violating the no-seller policy during Misa de Gallo and Simbang Gabi.

“They are also happy because it is still true that they can sell near the Basilica. Hopefully after this Christmas they will be transferred, they will also believe ”, said Arce.

(They are still happy because they can still sell near the Basilica. We just hope that after Christmas, when they are asked to transfer, they will comply).

Since they have been warned in advance that they are only allowed to sell in the morning until the afternoon, any violator can be penalized or lose their positions permanently. They can also be stopped by the police on patrol during the masses.

Arce urged suppliers to follow the guidelines and avoid violating them so that they can continue to operate around the Basilica.
