Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 28 million students in the country have been affected by school closings and community quarantine in an effort to contain the disease, according to the United Nations Educational Organization. , Science and Culture (Unesco).

Given the disruptions in the conduct of learning delivery, the Department of Education (DepEd) has sought the help of private institutions and one of its longtime allies heeded the call.

To strengthen its Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP), DepEd signed a Memorandum of Agreement with STI Education Services Group, Inc. (STI ESG) for a package of academic interventions that will respond to the difficulties caused by Covid- 19.

“This collaboration allows us to empower both students and teachers at DepEd by providing the necessary resources, tools and technology, which is also part of our duty to make education more accessible, especially in these difficult times ”, said Aisa Hipolito, academic vice president of STI ESG said.

Through DepEd’s Continuity of Learning Plan (LCP), there will be adjustments to the basic education curriculum, including key features of the K-12 program, alignment and delivery of learning materials, implementation of various teaching modalities, and corresponding training for teachers and parents. for distance learning.

DepEd said in a statement that the LCP is its primary response and commitment to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of students, teachers, and staff, while finding ways for education to continue amid the crisis of health for the 2020-2021 school year.

Under the partnership, STI will provide DepEd, particularly in the implementation of BE-LCP, with various forms of support free of charge, including the provision of technical assistance, transportation service, and the use of STI facilities across the country, to name a few.

Empowering teachers through technology
With the sudden change of physical classes, education has been dramatically transformed with the distinctive rise of online learning, whereby the mode of teaching is done remotely and on digital platforms to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

However, access and availability to certain learning platforms remains an issue and is considered one of the main obstacles in distance learning. To help DepEd and its teachers address this issue, STI will make the NEO Learning Management System (LMS) available to you.

STI will also train public school teachers who can use the learning management system to transition smoothly from the modality and maximize the features and efficiency of the LMS.

In addition, STI will assist DepEd in digitizing or converting learning content into digital format, including giving DepEd access and allowing the use of STI computer labs across the country, which can be used to convert materials into appropriate formats, train and receive Online Materials especially for DepEd teachers in locations where computer facilities are not readily available.

STI is also open to DepEd for additional partnerships, including teacher training for online education, in which they can earn master’s or doctoral credit. If teachers choose to continue their studies and pursue a master’s or doctorate degree, STI will recognize credits earned during training and assist teachers in their online graduate study program through STI West Negros University in Bacolod.
