Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series coming to PlayStation VR this summer after original release as an Oculus exclusive in 2019.
Mark Miller, executive creative producer at developer ILMxLAB, confirmed the game’s release on PlayStation blog. He did not offer an exact release date, but confirmed that Vader Immortal will be coming to PSVR “later this summer” with all three episodes and all of the lightsaber dojos available at launch.
Vader Immortal is a three-part episodic adventure that revolves around, you guessed it, Darth Vader. However, not everything is Vader, all the time. It takes you through a ton of iconic Star Wars sets and uses them as fuel for first-person lightsaber duels, but Vader’s presence and presentation are key to the overall boost.
“There are so many parts that catch you in the experience, but my favorite is still at the beginning of the first episode,” says Miller. “The moment Darth Vader approaches you for the first time is something that can’t really be explained (but I’ll try). It’s intense when his gaze follows you and speaks directly to you. I’ve seen some people rise up higher and get into their faces, and some shrink a little or even recoil, but their presence is intimidating and unforgettable. “
Meanwhile, the lightsaber dojos included with Vader Immortal were explicitly designed to test your mastery of lightsaber combat. Vader Immortal is much more flexible and responsive than the likes of Star Wars Kinect, and the robot dojo masters test both the combat system and the player. If you finish all three episodes but still want to fight more with your virtual lightsaber, dojos should be the perfect way out.
