The UAAP Board of Directors recommended sanctioning the Santo Tomas University men’s basketball coach, Aldin Ayo, for being allegedly responsible for maintaining a training bubble in Sorsogon during the quarantine.

Sources said the recommendation will be sent to the league’s Board of Trustees made up of presidents from the eight member universities, which will ultimately decide on the issue.

It was not clear whether the sanction would be a suspension or a ban.

The UAAP Board of Directors met Thursday to address the issues of teams allegedly training despite government health protocols, but reports from other schools have yet to be reported.

The “Sorsogon bubble” controversy has put UST in the spotlight in recent weeks, prompting the departure of its five players and the resignation of the university’s athletic director, Fr. Jannel Attorney OP.

A separate meeting between officials from the Joint Administrative Order Group (JAO) is scheduled to meet next week to determine next steps on the issue after Tuesday’s meeting with UAAP officials.

UAAP has already submitted the findings of UST’s internal investigation to the JAO Group, but only provided copies to the Department of Health (DOH) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
