The search for the next men’s basketball coach at the University of Santo Tomás has begun, less than a day after the school formally accepted the resignation of Aldin Ayo.
Sources said Manila Bulletin that UST alumni are crying out for some members of the four-champion team in the 1990s to take over the coaching reins and rebuild the dilapidated team that lost its coaching staff and five players due to the bubble controversy. Sorsogon training.
Among those allegedly considered are Siot Tanquingcen, Chris Cantonjos and Estong Ballesteros.
“Maybe to share their ‘never say die’ attitude with kids today, especially when they’re going through something,” said one former student, who requested anonymity.
“So these candidates went through the coach Aric Del Rosario. Then maybe they can share that UST winning tradition with the kids. “
Tanquingcen boasts three PBA titles for Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer, while Cantonjos was a former coach for the UST Tiger Cubs. Ballesteros, for his part, was an assistant at the Universidad de Oriente.
UST has been under fire for the past few weeks after the reported training bubble allegedly violated government health protocols.
This prompted consultations from the UAAP, the Joint Administrative Order Group and the Higher Education Commission, as well as the resignation of the UST sports director, Father Jannel Lawyer, Ayo and his assistants McJour Luib and Jinino Manansala, and the departure of five players.
Possible sanctions await both Ayo and the University, since the case is raised to the Interinstitutional Working Group.
