MANILA – Sorsogon 2nd District Ma.Rep. Bernadette “Ditas” Ramos passed away on Tuesday, the second member of the House of Representatives to die after testing positive for COVID-19.
Camiguin Lone District Representative Xavier Jesús Romualdo announced Ramos’ passing during the plenary session of the House of Representatives.
“It is with sadness that we have just learned that our dear colleague Representative Ma. Bernadita ‘Ditas’ Ramos from Sorsogon Second District has passed away,” he said.
The Secretary General of the House of Representatives, José Luis Montales, said that on Sunday Ramos was diagnosed with a positive coronavirus.
“She developed symptoms and was tested in the province,” Montales said, “he had said.
The senior list representative Francisco Datol Jr. was the first member of the 18th Congress to die after contracting the virus.
At least 70 in the House, including some lawmakers and several staff members, have contracted the virus.
