Solo Loop strap for Apple Watch: first impressions are good

I received my Solo Loop Apple Watch strap this morning, and first impressions are good.

I wasn’t tempted to swap my Series 4 for a shiny new Apple Watch Series 6 for the reasons explained above, but I liked the look of the band for just a couple of reasons …

Especially because I liked the perfect aesthetic. No holes, buckles or other fastening paraphernalia; just a smooth, unbroken band. It also seemed that it would be easier to put on and take off than a band that had to be fastened.

I liked the look of the plain and woven varieties, and since I didn’t have a strong preference and the plain cost half, that wasn’t a difficult decision.

I had amassed quite a few third party bands over the years, which I used to trade quite frequently, at one point even doing it daily to match the colors with my clothes. That phase didn’t last long, but I still swapped them out from time to time for variety before checking out Bandly’s wood band.

I loved that and ended up wearing it every day, but the daily closure meant the end of the strap started fraying a few weeks ago so it was time to switch to one or more new bands. I took the opportunity to make a selection of my bands, deciding to keep only four of them: two from Apple, two from third parties.

(Sadly, the one on the right, which looked and felt expensive, but was actually a ridiculously cheap Amazon purchase, no longer available. People kept asking and I had to pass the bad news.)

I measured my wrist diameter at 18cm, which according to Apple equates to a size 9 band. That size guide seems to have done the job perfectly.

When attached to the watch, it seems absurd to imagine that it could stretch enough to fit in my hands, but it did, without a problem. Once in place, it is snug but feels perfectly comfortable.

From the photos it looks like it may be too tight, but it doesn’t feel that way at all, it’s really comfortable.

If you’re looking for a really simple strap that is also easy to put on and take off, the Solo Loop Apple Watch is definitely worth a try.
