Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 19) – Eastern Isabela and northern Aurora will experience heavier rains under Tropical Cyclone Warning Sign 1 due to Tropical Depression Pepito.
The Philippine Astronomical and Geophysical Services Administration of the Philippines said in its last bulletin on Monday that as of 11 a.m., the eastern part of Isabela (Palanan, Dinapigue and the eastern part of San Mariano) and the northern part of Aurora (Dinalungan , Casiguran and Dilasag)) will experience winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) with very slight damage to low-risk structures and slight damage to high-risk structures.
These areas can have occasional gusts in the next 36 hours. Signal 1 can also be hoisted over the eastern part of Quirino and Aurora in the next bulletin.
PAGASA said that Pepito was located 475 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. It is moving towards the west northwest with sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph.
Batanes, Babuyan Islands and the northern coastal mountainous areas of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon and Northern Samar will experience strong to near-hurricane force winds with occasional gusts due to the wind flow from the northeast surface.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm before making landfall on the eastern coast of northern or central Luzon on Tuesday or Wednesday.
After crossing the Luzon landmass, Pepito may further intensify into a severe tropical storm by Thursday.
Pepito, the 16th tropical cyclone to enter Philippine territory, is expected to leave the country on Thursday or Friday, PAGASA added.
