MANILA, Philippines – Senators pressed Wednesday to restore the P44 million cut in the proposed 2021 Office of the Vice President (OVP) budget.
During the Senate panel hearing on OVP’s 2021 budget, Vice President Leni Robredo revealed that her office has an original budget proposal of P723 million for 2021, however, only P679 was approved by the Department of Budget and Management .
The budget that had been cut was supposed to be used to purchase new vehicles to replace the old, unusable cars from the OVP. It was also supposed to be used for research and development purposes.
“We only ask that what was lost be returned,” Robredo said during the hearing.
(We are asking to restore the budget cut).
Five senators voiced their support for restoring the budget cut, namely Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senators Francis Pangilinan, Nancy Binay, Bong Revilla Jr. and Lito Lapid.
Drilon asked Robredo to present to the Senate panel the list of items that were eliminated in the original OVP budget.
“I would like to say that the committee will consider this favorably at the appropriate time when we address the amendments, but I think as soon as it is clear that support will be overwhelming for the increase in the OVP,” said Senate Finance Chairman Sonny Angara. . during the hearing.
The Senate panel approved the OVP budget at the proposal of Revilla.
