The Supreme Court, meeting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), ruled on Tuesday to issue a show of cause order against The Manila Times and the Attorney General’s Office (OSG) headed by Solgen José Calida on why they should not be cited out of contempt. .

The PET ordered The Times reporter Jomar Canlas and Calida to explain why they should not be punished.

The PET did not give any reason for the request for cause of exhibition.

Times sources at the PET, however, said Associate Judge Marvic Mario Victor Leonen drafted a resolution stating that Canlas should be asked to explain the leaks of court drafts in connection with the electoral protest filed. by former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. against Vice President María Leonor “Leni” Robredo.

GSO and Marcos cited The Manila Times’ exclusive story about Leonen’s alleged bias and laziness in handling the case as their speaker. Marcos and Calida asked Leonen to withdraw from the case.

The Manila Times ran a story about the draft of Leonen’s reflections that sought to dismiss the electoral protest even before he was appointed as a speaker.

Leonen wanted to dismiss the protest for Marcos’ failure to comply with the specificity requirement on the alleged acts of fraud, anomalies or irregularities committed in each of the precincts covered by the protest.

Times sources said Leonen also asked the PET to order Calida to explain her alleged involvement in the case when she is not an interested party.

On Tuesday, Leonen said he would not back down from the case. Leonen did not elaborate on his refusal to recuse himself.

In his protest, Marcos attacked the electoral results in 39,221 grouped electoral districts.
He lost to Robredo by 263,473 votes.
