MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel is once again looking to bolster its ranks as it now plans to trade for former scoring champion and Rookie of the Year CJ Pérez.
Beermen and Terrafirma reportedly struck a deal that would send Pérez to San Miguel in exchange for role players Gelo Alolino, Russel Escoto, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser and a first-round pick on this year’s rookie pick.
However, the PBA Office will still have to approve the gigantic deal through its trade committee, but the league has yet to receive the official documents of the transaction.
This was not the first time that San Miguel ventured into a business that changed the landscape in the last four years.
The Beermen shocked the league when they traded for the draft rights to Christian Standhardinger in the 2017 Draft in exchange for Ronald Tubid, Jay-R Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy and their 2019 first-round pick who became Christian Balagasay.
Then in 2018 San Miguel traded with TNT for two-time scoring champion Terrence Romeo in exchange for Brian Heruela and David Semerad.
The last significant trade the Beermen made was a one-on-one trade that sent Standhardinger to NorthPort for Moala Tautuaa.
Pérez’s possible arrival in San Miguel will boost San Miguel’s already loaded lineup that includes six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo, 2013 MVP Arwind Santos and Mythical Team selections Romeo, Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter.
