The surge in coronavirus cases in San Francisco placed the city back at the most restrictive “purple tier” in the state, indicating new rules as of Monday, Mayor London Breed announced on Twitter Saturday.
A stay-at-home limit order will mean that all non-essential indoor businesses will close and members of different households won’t be allowed to meet between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. until December 21.
The outdoor dining room, indoor retail, indoor personal services, and outdoor fitness center will remain open. Outdoor recreational activities such as zoos, batting cages, and miniature golf may remain open.

Activities inside, including worship, must cease, with exceptions. Indoor funerals for up to 12 people and outdoor religious services for up to 200 people are allowed.

The city also issued a travel advisory, warning residents not to travel outside of the county.
“I don’t know how to be clearer: this is the most dangerous moment we have faced during this pandemic. Do not travel or meet with other people, ”Breed tweeted.
“This is the most aggressive increase SF has seen to date. We are currently averaging 118 new cases per day compared to 73 per day in the first week of November, ”he said. “For the week of November 16, we had 768 cases diagnosed compared to 217 cases diagnosed the week of October 12.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom imposed an overnight curfew through Nov. 19 for 41 counties on the “purple” level, but that did not apply to San Francisco at the time. Purple, or Level 1, is the most severe level, indicating that the virus is widespread in an area, with more than seven cases per 100,000 residents.
On Friday, Los Angeles County issued a home security order from November 30 to December 20 that included stricter limits on outings and meetings.
Under the new order, residents are asked to stay home “as much as possible” and to cover their faces outside.
Public and private gatherings with people outside the home are prohibited. Religious services and protests are exempt. Occupancy limits for retail businesses will be limited to 35%, shopping centers to 20% and 50% for gyms.
Health officials expressed concern about an increase in broadcasts ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and the upcoming holidays next month. Nearly 90,000 are currently hospitalized with the virus in the US.
