RJ Jazul of Phoenix named Mr. Quality Minutes

Veteran guard RJ Jazul and the exciting Philippine Cup bubble quarter-final match between Phoenix Super LPG and Magnolia will have their share of the limelight at the upcoming PBA Press Corps virtual awards night.

Jazul, 34, and captain of the Fuel Masters team, was named Mr. Quality Minutes for his immense contributions from the bench, while Phoenix’s 89-88 victory to defeat the Hotshots in the playoffs is the unanimous choice for The Game of the Bubble from the men and women who regularly cover the beat of the PBA.

The two-in-one awards night, which will also be recognized by the 2019 winners, is scheduled for March 7 at the TV5 Media Center and presented by Cignal TV.

Jazul, 5-foot-11, averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 17 games during the only conference last season. He scored a career-high 33 points with nine 3-pointers in the Fuel Masters’ 110-101 victory over five-time champion San Miguel Beer to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

The Fuel Masters, no. 2, also made his presence felt in the playoffs after his memorable comeback win against the seventh-seeded Hotshots, which Matthew Wright capped with a continuous 3-pointer in the final 9.8 seconds.

Jazul and the Phoenix-Magnolia game are part of the various bubble prizes that will be awarded at the event that will be shown at PBA Rush on March 8.

Previously announced as part of the honor roll are CJ Perez (scoring champion) and the All-Rookie team (Aaron Black, Arvin Tolentino, Roosevelt Adams, Barkley Ebona and Renzo Subido).

Perez, the former NCAA MVP out of Lyceum, averaged 24.4 points during the all-Filipino conference last year while still with Terrafirma, to lead the league in scoring for the second consecutive season.
