Rhenz Abando will be leaving the UST Growling Tigers, according to various reports on Monday.
Following reports from the Tiebreaker Times and SPIN.ph, Abando appeared to confirm the development on social media.
“Thank you for your infinite grace !!!,” Abando tweeted.
Abando is the third high-profile player to leave UST. Former team captain CJ Cansino was retired from the team before joining the UP Fighting Maroons on August 21.
Brent Paraiso confirmed on Twitter on August 29 that he left UST.
The outings come after reports that the Tigers were practicing in a bubble environment at Sorsogon. UST, UAAP and the government are conducting an investigation.
Abando was one of UST’s bright spots in his run to the 2019 UAAP season 82 men’s basketball finals. He averaged 11.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. If you decide to transfer to a UAAP school, you will only have two years of eligibility, but if you transfer to an NCAA school, you will have three years of eligibility.
It’s not the first time Abando seemed willing to leave the Tigers. Coach Aldin Ayo last October benched Abando for allegedly being a poaching target for multiple universities.
