Metro Manila (CNN Philippines Staff, Nov 25) – President Rodrigo Duterte appointed the deputy judge of the Court of Appeals, Remedios Salazar-Fernando, as presiding judge of the CA.

The appointment was confirmed by presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a message Wednesday.

A photo shared by the Supreme Court’s Office of Public Information on social media showed Salazar-Fernando taking the oath before the Chief Justice, Diosdado M. Peralta, in the En Banc Session Room.

“We are confident that Presiding Judge Fernando would serve the CA with the same judicial excellence, dedication and integrity that he demonstrated in his years of service in the CA,” Roque said in his message.

On its website, the Supreme Court shared that Fernando began his career as a legal assistant in the superior court in 1978 and became a judge of the Municipal Court of First Instance (MTC) of Sta. Rita, Pampanga and an interim judge of the MTC of Lubao in 1984.

She also served in government in various capacities as chair of the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board, assistant secretary of the Land Transportation Office, and head of the Elections Commission in 1992.
