CITY OF TUGUEGARAO, Cagayán: Some 113 barangay (villages) in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) were once again submerged by days of continuous downpour over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Cagayan River continued to drop, but many homes remain flooded.
The Regional Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (RDRRMC) said that the 113 flooded villages were in 12 localities in the province of Cagayán, 12 localities in the province of Isabela and two localities in the province of Quirino.
The RDRRMC has registered up to 6,816 families with 28,959 people whose houses and other properties were flooded.
At least 1,223 families fled to evacuation centers while 355 families sought refuge in their neighbors and relatives located in safer and higher areas.
In the city of Tuguegarao, Mayor Jefferson Soriano toured the city to provide goods and other forms of assistance to affected families, including those in evacuation areas.
The Integrated Irrigation System of the National Irrigation Administration-Magat River has reduced the release of water from six spillway gates to just two gates with a height of 4 meters.
The water level in the Magat dam reservoir was 190.85 meters above sea level, 2.15 meters near its critical level of 193 meters.
RDMMC officials said they continue to advise residents, especially those living in low-lying areas and along the Cagayán River, to watch out for water coming from various tributaries of the Cagayán River that contribute large volumes of water to the river.
