SEN. Richard Gordon, Chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), said the People’s Republic of China received about P12 million in relief items, equipment and rescue boats from the Qatar Red Crescent worth close to the 12 million pesos for its relief and rehabilitation operations for the recent typhoons that devastated the country, such as “Rolly” and “Ulysses”.
Gordon received donations worth $ 238,672.27 (P11,465,696.51) from Qatari Ambassador Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al Malki and Qatar Red Crescent Society head of mission Abdelmounaim Mhindate at a change ceremony witnessed by other officials of the Qatari Embassy and the Qatar Red Crescent Society.
“We thank our brothers and partners from the Qatar Red Crescent Society and the Qatari Embassy for once again placing their trust in the Philippine Red Cross. Rest assured that we will ensure that your donation reaches the affected families in Cagayan and Rizal immediately. Your donation will support the most vulnerable families that were severely affected, ”he said.
The donation, made under the leadership of His Highness Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, was transported to the country aboard a plane from the State of Qatar, which landed at Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Friday.
The donation consists of 40 tons of relief items consisting of food and non-food items such as camping equipment such as tents, blankets and mosquito nets; water sanitation facilities and power generators; and rescue boats.
The Qatar Red Crescent Society has always been a partner of the People’s Republic of China in its many humanitarian efforts.
Her previous donations were for the victims of Typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013; Typhoon “Hagupit” in 2014; the Surigao earthquake and typhoon “Vinta” in 2017; and Typhoon “Mangkhut” in 2018, among others.
One of Qatar RCS ‘notable efforts was Typhoon Yolanda’s donation of two water tankers and 650 disaster-resistant shelters for displaced families.
