TNT coach Bong Ravena praised RR Pogoy’s effort to play through injury Monday in the PBA Philippine Cup bubble.
Pogoy was a game-time decision in the GIGA Tropang contest against Phoenix Super LPG. Not only did he play through an ankle injury, he also thrived on the pain.
Pogoy scored 20 of his 30 points in the second half as momentum shifted to Tropang GIGA in the second half on their way to a 110-91 victory. It was Pogoy’s second game where he exploded on offense after his 45-point performance in the first game.

“We call him ‘The Wolverine,'” Ravena said after the game. “For us coaches, we were supposed to let him rest, but this kid really wants to play. We are lucky to have players like this. All heart.”
Pogoy sprained his right ankle in TNT’s clash with San Miguel after stepping on Gelo Alolino’s foot after a jump shot. Pogoy accepted Alolino’s apology for missing the landing site.
The former Far Eastern University standout couldn’t get going right away. Although aggressive with his shots, Pogoy only made 4 of his 11 shots at half and had 10 points. He got going in the third, hit two 3-pointers and had 10 in the third that saw TNT walk away, 30-14, in the period.
Ravena said Pogoy still had doubts for the game against the Fuel Masters until the warm-ups.
“We are still watching how you feel, if you can. But first, warm up just before target practice. He’s fine. He said he can play, we play too, ”said Ravena.
