SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) – K-pop band BTOB’s rapper Jung Il-hoon has left the group, the band’s management agency said on Thursday, a week after the reports came to light. allegations of marijuana use.

“(The agency) decided to respect Jung’s wish to leave BTOB so as not to cause further harm to the group,” said CUBE Entertainment.

“Jung feels great responsibility and deeply regrets breaking the trust of fans and disappointing them,” he added.

Last week, police said they referred the rapper from the 26-year-old septet to prosecutors in July on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. It was found that he had smoked marijuana that he purchased through an acquaintance multiple times, according to police.

“(The company) feels a great responsibility for this situation and will do our duty to have (Jung) sincerely cooperate with further investigations,” the agency said.

BTOB will be returning as a six-member group with more mature music and performance, he added, promising to provide unwavering support for the band.

Jung participated in the writing of several of the group’s hit songs since their debut in 2012, including “Movie” and “The Winter’s Tale.”

He is currently serving his mandatory military service as a public service worker after enlisting in May.
