CITY OF LUCENA, Quezon: Police here confiscated boxes of a variety of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth P130,000 here Thursday morning. The confiscation was carried out in accordance with the implementation of the Republic Law (RA) 7183, “A law that regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.” Major Gaylor Pagala, head of the Intelligence Unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) -Quezon identified the owner of the firecrackers as Lonily Enriquez, 62, a businesswoman and resident of Barangay Market View in this city. Pagala said the operation was carried out with a PNP Lucena team at 11:30 a.m. at the Vio-Let store in Barangay 9, resulting in the arrest of the owner and the confiscation of the firecrackers. The Lucena city government has not issued a single permit for the sale of firecrackers, which identifies Enriquez as an illegal business, Pagala said. Enríquez is in the custody of the Lucena PNP while a criminal complaint for violation of RA 7183 is being prepared to file with the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lucena.
