MANILA, Philippines – The headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) at Camp Karingal was placed under a three-day lockout after 13 staff members and one soldier were positive for coronavirus disease (COVID- 19).
Major General Debold Sinas, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the test results were based on a target group test conducted April 25-29.
“Our most important resource against this battle is our human resource. Therefore, we choose to implement all possible measures to ensure their safety and ensure that they are in their optimal state of health while heading to the front to face the invisible deadly virus, “Sinas said in a statement Monday.
The closing began at 5 p.m. on May 9 and will end on May 12, Maj. Britz Estadilla, an NCRPO spokesman, said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
Sinas said the target group tests were carried out on a total of 219 of the 1,563 assigned employees at the camp. A total of 115 test results have already been published. Another 104 staff members who passed the test are still awaiting results.
Of the staff who tested positive for the virus, nine are commissioned officers and four are non-commissioned. The other infected individual is a soldier from the military’s Joint Task Force – National Capital Region.
Of the 13 QCPD staff members, 10 are assigned to district headquarters, while three are assigned to QCPD community police precincts.
According to Sinas, the three-day blockade throughout the camp was necessary to facilitate contact tracing, patient monitoring, decontamination of the camp and other preventive measures.
On May 8, the number of confirmed COVID-19s among members of the police force stood at 131, the Philippine National Police (PNP).
