Public Urged to Report on Groups Selling COVID-19 ‘Vaccines’

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday urged the public to report on health facilities and groups that sell suspected COVID-19 vaccines.

FDA Director General Eric Domingo said there is not yet a registered vaccine against severe respiratory disease and that any vaccine that undergoes a clinical trial in the country cannot be sold to the public.

“We must remember that even though a product is undergoing clinical trials in the Philippines or abroad, and it is not a registered product, it cannot be marketed as safe and effective, and it definitely cannot be sold. What can be sold and used to the public are those registered and approved by the FDA, ”said Domingo.

“If you see someone advertising or selling [purported vaccines], please inform us directly so that we can inspect and verify those facilities because it is illegal to sell COVID-19 vaccines, “he added.

Domingo issued the reminder following reports of Chinese advertisements marketing clinical trial vaccines.

Domingo said it would be ideal for trials of potential COVID-19 vaccines to begin as soon as possible given the steady decline in the number of new infections.

On Friday, the Health Department registered 2,006 additional cases, bringing the total number of cases to 378,933. Batangas reported the highest number of new cases with 124, followed by Cavite (121), Quezon City (105), Rizal (89) and Bulacan (81).

There are now a total of 330,457 survivors of COVID-19 with the recovery of 636 more patients. The death toll, however, rose to 7,185 when 38 patients succumbed to severe respiratory illness.

Recoveries and deaths left the country with 41,291 active cases, of which 83.3 percent are mild, 11.1 percent asymptomatic, 2 percent severe, and 3.6 percent critical.

Since the beginning of the month, there have only been three cases in which daily new infections exceeded 3,000. It was on October 4, 12 and 16. Compared to last month, overall new cases are down 25 percent from 92,495 to 68,730.
