Members of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) selection body will hold a public interview of the three aspiring court presidents on Friday.
The Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (SC), Estela Perlas Bernabe, will be the first to face the JBC, followed by Deputy Justices Alexander Gesmundo and Ramón Paul Hernando, according to the notice issued by the council.
“The public may submit to the JBC a complaint, report or opposition under oath against any of the named candidates,” said the JBC.
Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta will leave the judiciary on his 69th birthday on March 27, one year before the mandatory retirement age for judges and magistrates.
Currently, Peralta directs the JBC.
Its members include the Secretary of Justice Menardo Guevarra, Senator Richard Gordon, the representative of Leyte Vicente Veloso III, the retired judges of the SC José Mendoza and Noel Tijam, as well as the retired judges Toribio Ilao Jr. and Franklin Demonteverde. – Virgil Lopez / RSJ, GMA News
