The Philippine Sports Commission has sincerely apologized to the Eala family for publishing “unintentional misinformation” regarding the financial aid received by young tennis player Alex.
“PSC would like to correct the previous post made today of an attendance of 3 million for Alex Eala. It was unintentional misinformation. “ read the agency statement.
“Although there was a resolution of the board approved for this purpose, it was later clarified that it is still being processed, pending the required documents.”
This comes moments after Alex finished the semi-finals at the 2020 French Open, the PSC sent him a congratulatory message, stating that he played a role in supporting his training and competitions abroad.
He stated that the PSC backed Alex with PHP three million for his travel to tournaments and two-month training abroad, while allocating PHP 1.5 million for his six international tournaments played since January 2020.
“We are happy to be part of your journey”, said PSC President Butch Ramirez in office.
In addition to dad Michael, Alex’s mom, Rizza, also intervened by denouncing the PSC post.
“First, we are grateful to the government for congratulating Alex and allowing courtesy calls with officials, and providing his country with the required travel accreditation documentation. Alex even received congressional recognition for his Australian Open Junior Doubles Championship. “ said Rizza, a former national swim team athlete and current Globe Telecom CFO.
“But for the record, we have not received any of the funds in the millions of pesos mentioned here in the post. In fact, we’ve been trying to reimburse Alex’s travel expenses for the Australian Open that took place last January, but they’re giving us a spin at PSC. “
Although they have met with PSC officials on numerous occasions, to this day it remains a “verbal promise.”
Michael, who is a successful businessman, and Rizza have been financing travel and training abroad for Alex and his son Miko, also a rising star in tennis.
The PSC, on the other hand, promised that it will not give up its commitment to Alex. He said the funds will arrive as soon as the processing is complete.
“We apologize to the public and Ms. Eala’s family for any misunderstandings this may have caused,” PSC’s statement continued.
“The PSC remains committed to supporting Ms. Eala in previously approved and future training and competition activities.”
