MANILA, Philippines – For the first time in its history, the Philippine Sports Writers Association (PSA) will virtually host its Annual Awards Night, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

While the sports world was not spared from the global health crisis, there were still Filipino athletes who overcame adversity and gave the country something to be happy about last year.

The highlight of the unique event, scheduled for March 27, is the presentation of the coveted Athlete of the Year trophy, which is presented exclusively by the country’s oldest media organization led by President Tito S. Talao, sports editor of the Manila Bulletin.

The other regular awards given out at the annual event will also be featured as the Executive of the Year, the President’s Award, the National Sports Association (NSA) of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Top honorees in various sports are also included on the honor roll short list, as well as a handful of special mentions and recognitions to individuals and entities that sustained the Philippine sport in 2020.

The one-hour program will be led by Gretchen Ho and Carlo Pamintuan.

Last year, the Philippines team received the Athlete of the Year honor following the country’s successful campaign during the 30 Southeast Asian Games, where the Philippines emerged as overall champion for only the second time in its 43-year campaign at the biennial. meet.

Awards Night was held at the historic Hotel Manila on March 6, just a week before the entire Luzon area was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the pandemic.
