SIGNAL No. 1 can be raised in portions of Eastern Visayas on Tuesday night when Tropical Depression (TD) “Ambo” maintained its strength over the Philippine Sea.
Starting at 5 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) saw Ambo 410 kilometers east of the city of Surigao, Surigao del Norte, moving slowly northeast.
Pagasa said Ambo has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and a gust of up to 70 kph over the Philippine Sea.
Meteorologist Loriedin Dela Cruz said the increase in storm signals in parts of eastern Visayas was due to the anticipation of potentially strong winds associated with Ambo.
Dela Cruz said the Ambo depression or extension would bring scattered light to moderate and sometimes heavy rain during thunderstorms over Mindanao in the next 24 hours.
The state meteorological agency said Metro Manila and the rest of the country would experience partially cloudy to overcast skies with isolated showers caused by thunderstorms.
He said that floods and rain-induced landslides can occur in highly susceptible to highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rain.
He added that the coasts of the eastern Visayas and the Caraga region would experience moderate to rough seas.
