CEBU CITY, Philippines – Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, director of the Regional Police Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), will recommend an extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Cebu Province.

In a phone interview with journalists on Monday, May 11, 2020, Ferro said he would recommend the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) to extend the implementation of the ECQ until May 30, 2020.

This after the number of positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to increase, especially in the city of Cebu, which has counted 1,566 cases until Sunday, May 10.

“I will recommend for extension because of the evidence we are obtaining, the Danish numbers are positive in different areas and in prison. So we should try more and keep track of contacts so we can discover kung asa tong icontain nato … For me we hope [the ECQ extension] until the end of this month, “said Ferro.

The PRO-7 director said the ECQ extension would allow them to execute plans on how they would contain the areas with the most cases and what else to do with those who still had zero cases.

The ECQ extension is also important for completing mass testing, as well as continuing the “3T” approach or the test, trace and treat method of fighting the virus.

However, Ferro assured that although the cases had continued to increase, it did not mean that the government had mishandled COVID-19 cases since the mortality rate had remained low despite the increasing cases.

He said it was natural for cases to arise as the city government had been conducting massive tests, which meant it would be discovered that more were carriers of the virus.
