PBA President Ricky Vargas said resuming a PBA season in a bubble environment won’t come cheap.
“I’ll tell you, it’s about P65 million that it will cost us,” Vargas told Noli Eala on an episode of “Power & Play” on Saturday.
Most of the expenses will come from the delegates’ lodging and meals, according to Vargas. The TNT governor, along with commissioner Willie Marcial, had previously refused to estimate the cost of resuming a season suspended due to a health crisis.
The PBA has published plans for an Oct. 9 restart with the Philippine Cup, which is expected to last two months. And the cost of the bubble, which will burst in Pampanga, is expected to cover the same amount if the season is not resumed. The PBA has said that it is losing at least P30 million a month while in stasis. Investigators’ sources have set the amount at nearly double.
However, by shelling out the bubble cash, the league will at least have revenue streams to cover the loss of money in terms of advertising revenue, marketing value and endorsements.
The reboot will feature daily games at the University of Angeles Foundation school gym, a facility located in a residential area, and is 20 minutes from the Quest Hotel, the designated accommodation for the delegation.
