One of the brightest minds in basketball just put his name on the Santo Tomas University hat.

Potit De Vera, the engineer who ran the machine at the Philippine Institute of Technology, has applied for the position of head coach of the Growling Tigers.

Although De Vera came from a relatively small school in TIP, she has made the big dreams of her student-athletes come true.

“I bring experience and competence that can revive the true spirit of college basketball. I am well versed in developing competitive programs in the right way. “ said the young strategist.

Take, for example, the engineering squad that was disbanded due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Their players were able to easily find new homes despite finishing UCBL last season with a 3-7 scoreline.

Bryan Santos went to UST, Ximone Sandangon to FEU, Warren Calara to La Salle, Ivan Santos, Jopet Soriano and Marlon Navarro to Mapua, and Jhon Calisay and RV Yanes to Adamson.

In addition to this, De Vera is also a true Thomasian, playing for the Tiger Cubs prior to being on UST’s B-Team.

He also served as an assistant coach for FEU, UP, and Boracay Rum in the late 2000s.

For him, the way he builds programs from scratch is what makes him most apt to be the man to rebuild UST, which is in shambles at the moment.

“My heart to show the world that righteous and godly virtues have a place even in worldly success will be my fuel to keep going through whatever struggles and challenges come our way.”
